Jan. 12th, 2006 @ 08:35 am Serious questions !!
Anyone out there now anything about CAD, specifically in its use for architecture? I have a question.

When drawing at 1:100 or possibly even 1:50 it is almost impossible to detail the plaster & other finishes on your drawing as when printed they just won't show up properly. Basically the lines will all just mesh into one giant line. Then later you have to detail the finishes on 1:20 or lower. This seems to me as double work. Any suggestions are welcome.

I feel very sorry for new mums and dads here. The amount of mittens, booties that you see lying around is quite troubling. Always neatly placed where they can be found. Presumably by some concerned citizen in the vain hopes that people will come looking for them. Knowing Murphy and his devious ways it will always be the left or the right that gets lost. So you can't even get some trendy new look going by mixing it up a little.

Finally got to watch Narnia on friday last. Other than the some kiddieness of it and the annoying use of the blue screen (which seem to now be green anyway) in places that i thought was a little unnecessary i thought it a very good movie. Not having read the book made it all the more enjoyable as i had no idea what was going to happen. I see that the poster are up already for Da Vinci code. Xmen seems to be on the Horizon too.

My usual i am lame and play Warcraft too much update: Having finally dumped a whole bunch of green quest from my Druid i can now concentrate on getting him up a few levels. Although there is still a huge amount of trudging up and down darkshore that is getting a might tiresome. I am actually thinking of starting again on the path that is druid. Although it would seem such a waste to just dropped this one. I have made several mistakes along the way and of course this has cost time and money. Having put these thoughts out of my mind as they are to much to think about, i now have a gnome mage running around on a completely new server as both Turalyon and Khadgar are having ques at the moment. I also fast coming to the conclusion that druids where never intended to be played solo.

Thats all for now folks

Current Mood: bouncy
It appears that Christmas is officially over and it seems that people are very serious about the 6 January rule. The pavements on my way to work are lined with the poor old Christmas trees that have served their purpose. Even the ones that have already been taken away have left a sad reminder of their time with us. Little leaves drop every so often up and down the pavements.

In other news tickets are booked for flight home (big grin), or should i say ticket as i will only be getting one.Going via Frankfurt, but not a very long stop over. I will most likely have to hall arse to get to my other plane on time. Marginally worried about my bags not making into the flight in time, but them hey who cares. I will have the important stuff on my person and i still get to go home. (another big grin)

Have a good weekend end to anyone who decides to read this and see some of you in February.

It feels like the last day of school used to feel. Maybe that is because it is a more formal office than i am used to. Feels a bit like school anyway, only difference is i get paid here.

Read an article in the Metro this morning. I have been religiously avoiding it at the moment because other than one or two quirky stories the rest have all been about murder and violence and the 24 hour pub rule. Blah not happy morning reading.  But today even though it is in a depressing article i read something that i thought was wrong "When Mansha's flat was raided police found a blank firing gun converted to shoot live rounds as well as DVDs containing anti western propoganda......" Does my grammer suck that badly or does it sound like the gun was converted to fire DVD's !!?

The tea spoon article was kinda cute =)

!! - MERRY XMAS AND HAPPY NEW YEAR - !!

I have about as much motivation to work as a drugged up marshmellow. I think coming back from SA and then one week of work was a silly idea to say the least. With nobody going to look at the revised drawings till January why bother.

Much looking forward to our Scotland Xmas trip. 2:7 chance of snow i am told. Still having trouble resolving how they work out there odds though. Apparently the bookies are playing it very safe on the gambling side of things, because to qualify for a white Christmas only a single snow flake needs to fall on the metrological centre in London and bang they have to pay out. I think it is sitting at 1:4 fo London. Whether or not this is the CHANCE of it snowing or the bookie ODDS is still to be contested. (Mainly by me =)

Gourmet burgers tonight, should be good.

Yeah it's friday. 2 Days of nothing to do.

Best Calamari update: Millers Thumb (Tamboerskloof) Morrocan Pan Fried wins so far in the pan fried category. The little place in Hermanus, which i can never remember its name, wins so far in the deep fried batter stuff. Also their chips come in those cute little metal bucket things which are all the rage. Also in there favour, they had great milkshakes. I cannot coment on the milkshakes at Millers Thumb.

Have a good weekend, i will be asleep.

Current Mood: tired
Well after a week of sun and fun (well we did work most of the time) i am back to grey London. Although it appears that she is giving me a break and easing into the bad weather. It is actually quite nice outside and the sun is shining (it is really)

We had a very productive trip to SA and now that i am back in the office i seem to have forgotten half of it. This is why you should always write things down. Of course it is really only one or two things i missed. It is just trying to remember them when you have just flown in (and yes my arms are tired) and then basically straight to the office. I did get to go home and shower and see my mom, which was cool if brief.

Other things that came out of the trip to SA are that i am most definately coming home and will be there 11th or 12th of February depending on flights.

Thanks again to all who made my visit great and sorry to those who i did not get to see, cause i had to retire =). Special thanks to the Waynne & Jean Housing project for putting me up.

On the downside of having a paid for trip home. I seem to have completely missed the autumn leaves here and now get to look and completely bare trees.

I NEED SLEEP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

While reading the METRO this afternoon at lunch time i came across an article about the people hit by earth quakes in Pakistan. They have a picture of a little boy with a scarf around his head trying to stay warm and some usual dramatic headline.
Of course either somebody has just not been paying attention OR is trying to guilt the readers into doing something about it, because right next to the article is an advert for Warm Woolie jumpers from UNIQLO 2 for £29.99.

I hope it is a guilt thing otherwise they should axe their layout staff.

Off to SA in 4 days =)

((((((((((WARMTH ))))))))))

Oh yeah it turns out that it was not the FBI trying to catch me out. My plot is safe. Somebody had a virus lurking in the workings of their PC which decided to start emailing random stuff around the office. 5 in a day is funny, 20 in an hour is a pain.

Damn the FBI and there cunning staff. They have caught up with me!! My research into world domination has been taking me to some illegal websites, as dictated by the Feds and they have been MONITORING me (the bastards). How clever they are, to catch me out they have sent me an email from @fbi.gov with a list of incriminating question that i am to answer immediately. Obviously they believe i will think it spam and reply to the questions. =)

Really how stupid do this spammers think we are or maybe it really was the FBI. Oh well free board and lodging for 20 years (Sing Sing here we come)

Turalyon realm again would not load my character list last night so i was forced to create a Shaman on another server. I think i shall enjoy playing Falspeare, shamans look cool. Even though i have not got much in the way of levels.  I like the multitask type characters. Did play my hunter for awhile the other night, not all that impressed, but we shall see.

Yeah mom arrives to a chilly London tomorrow night, then me to SA =(. Then Scotland for Christmas should be nice and cold. They are predicting snow for this weekend and that's in London. Big woolly jumpers required all round.

Current Mood: anxious

This morning i was greeted with a white world. Everything was covered in a thin layer of frost. I could make some comment about fairy winter wonderlands but i will refrain i think. Everyone was scrapping the crap of there cars so i don't think wonderland was on their minds. The cars did look like some sort of sugar sweets though. 'Cept the ones with bird poop on them. They kinda looked like sweets that have been dropped in the dirt. You know when that happen as kids and especially if it was the last one and there where no niggle some adults around. You would think too yourself "I can clean that it's not that bad, just a little crunchy". That is kinda how i feel about life at the moment. Is it worth the crunchy bits or should i just go get another bag of sweets.

- Brainless tired musings of the mind.

We played munchkin Bites last night which was really great fun. We probably didn't shuffle the deck all to well and the result was a monster fest.   Followed by a trap fest.  We managed to all get to very similar levels and me being on level 9 and unable to win with the 3 level ups i pick up, decided to get everyone on level 9 to make things interesting. I think if memory serves bigHair one the evening with a really cool game mechanic (which i not going into right now).

Relatively early night for a game night home before 23h30 and in bed by midnight not bad.  Tonight another pie and maybe some veggies then to Turalyon maybe or bed or Harry Potter.

Have a good weekend everyone and if you can't drink more.

Little to report at the moment. Bean spending some time on WoW, but nothing really exciting other than to say if they warn about an elite quest believe them. Some construct beat the bajeebers out of me and i was trying to help it.

Karma or fate or some other demon in the works seems to have conspired against me these past few days. The house that i am working on has been deemed to big for the aesthetics committee in Franschhoek and as a result we have to do some major trimming. This wouldn't normally not be a problem but i have two weeks too complete before the team heads of to SA for a week and a half.

Which brings me to the other karmic botch (although i do get to see friends) I am now on said team. Which everyone goes "hey cool you get to go home for free" yes all true, however my Mom is making a trip to London to spend Xmas with us. At least she is here for a month so it won't be too bad. Still on target for four days in Scotland over Xmas weekend. Going to visit the Rosslyn chapel (the one from Da Vinci code). Should be good if not bloody cold.

Hopefully more exciting news to follow.

Current Mood: cold
There is frost on the grass and i don't give a hoot what everyone says here. IT'S COLD right, freezing and it is supposed to get worse. I am going to have to run around with a thermal jumpsuit on. Hey should have kept my banana suit from the air force. Thing was a useless in africa, but will be a treat here. Make very good jammies.

Tube was full again this morning. That is cause i was on it normal time again, last week was all early days. Which i am thinking of making a permanent feature as it means empty tubes. Of course the upside of a full tube is warmth and lots of it. Personal space has to take a back seat though and of course you always get the hard cases who take a running jump to get on and when your hands are in pockets this makes grabbing hold of something fall short of the quickness that is required.

Had a smashing weekend. Friday night went to go see Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang. Brilliant i thought. Very Raw movie though, may be laugh out loud, but it has a serious grit element to it. Dowdy jnr & Kilmer at their best i felt. Especially Dowdy and the unknown female lead did pretty well too :)

Saturday morning their was some hardcore WoW action resulting in a few level jumps and some completed quests. Some assistance was required on a few, but hey that's half the fun. The afternoon was spent exploring the British Museum. Which would require at least three days with a sleeping bag and rations. Saves having to travel there and back. Of course being able to live in the apartments next to the museum would be great. If you can pull down like £30000 a month or possible a week, not sure don't want to make myself sick by looking at the price tags.

Sunday was off to the SPUR in Wandsworth for some all you can eat ribs. We didn't do to well on the all you can eat part, but did manage to stuff ourselves suitably. Damn fine ribs too. Only draw back to the place is that it is jamb packed with South Africans, i being one of them of course, but it was not my choice of eating venue. Still great time was had. Off to Cafe Rouge in Wimbledon Village for a cup of coffee and apple pastry job and then home to phone mom and check email. Great time all round.

Yeah two weeks on my mom is here, can't wait.

BATTLE STATIONS UPDATE: It appears that due to the Intrepid crew's extensive debriefing after their first non-simulated mission they where unable to fly out for another adventure. Awkward questions where asked. Like why is their a giant hole in the side of the engine module and why do you have a prisoner? There was no mention in the mission briefing about taking POWs.

WoW: It appears that not everyone on Turalyon is friendly. I am picking up occasional aggressive fellow questers. After having our asses kicked repeatedly in one fairly tough one i offered my colleague additional armour (free gratis no charge) as i was not using it and was about to proceed in turning it into fairy dust. Blah blah "i don't need your cast offs i could beat you in a duel anytime." Yeah you witch that's cause you have 3 levels on me and if you soooooooooooooooo cool ha'come you need help. Anyway finished the quest before her/him cause the twit ran into the fire (lol). If you think dragons are tough, just run into a bonfire. You fall over very quickly.

Have a good weekend everyone. Don't do anything i wouldn't or couldn't do better.

There seem to be more dangers to online gaming than just your social life. "Snowly" (her online persona) passed away last month after a three day marathon session on World of Warcraft. Players on the server gathered at a in game cathedral and gave tribute to her by kneeling and bowing their heads an impressive boost for human relations if you ask me as they probably have never met Snowly in there lives before. Asia is planning new regulations to try and curb this sort of thing as this is not the first player to pass away as a result of fatigue, exhaustion and starvation. Experts are saying that online gaming can be as addictive as drugs.

A warning to all you online jockeys: eat, rest and enjoy the game its not supposed to be that serious.

Sympathies and condolences to family and friends of Snowly.

Well it is official, WoW is very very cool. After the extreme sport installation task which was a whole bunch of fun I catually started playing at 00h30 saturday morning. It began at 19h30 with the first of 5 discs going in, curios fact though is the manual says the games is spread over 4. This took me till about 21h30 to get all this done. Upon completion of this marathon i was eager to create my account and begin adventuring. Account creation is a piece of cake and this took all of 5 minutes. TO THE GAME i cried, but alas no. Next came the 250meg patch download.

Out came the disc and in went the Young Guns DVD which note is a 2 hour movie. I finished watching it and had time to get a cup of sorely needed java. Yeah download complete, TO THE GAME i cried yet again, but again no. Now it must install the patch and there are about 6 of them and it requires the game client to restart each time and of course to make life even more interesting i started running out of space. Mad panics to uninstall needless apps and unwanted music, before the space warnings came around.

Cool thing about MAYA learning addition to note (If you ever need this as a function) uninstall it and you get less space on the HD.

After all this it was in fact TO THE GAME and then it was sunday 21h00 and i had not even left the house. Lvl 14 Druid to show for it. I can turn into a bear. HOW cool is that. Lots of fun.

This weekend i shall have to get out though. The V&A is looking tempting as i can get there without having to by a travel card. Of course if it is raining forget it.
